- Stay focused. Don't let yourself be distracted. I fall into that trap frequently. It's difficult when you're a one-man band. If there's a crisis with someone's computer, I need to solve it right away, but there are situations where you can say: "I need to have a space of an hour here."
- Manage the paper flow. I work with piles. I have little piles of stuff on my desk. I know what's in them. I either add to them or, when I am able to sit down with them, I organize them. I try to keep them well organized.
- I do my own filing as well. Filing tends to be one of those things that tend to get put off. I know there are theories about how many times to handle a piece of paper but that's easier said than done. I sometimes handle a piece of paper half a dozen times.
- I have a Palm Pilot V. It allows you to organize your day and keep track of your appointments, and you can have it synchronized with your desktop computer. That has helped me a tremendous amount. I used to have a diary at work and a calendar at home and pieces of paper. Palm Pilots have a huge capacity.
- Keep a sense of humour and don't take yourself too seriously.
- Exercise!
